And if you haven’t been watching Conan, then you are truly missing out. The venom and (justified) disregard he has for NBC is… nothing short of awesome. Last night, a good friend that NBC commanded not make an appearance.

It was great to see Masturbating Bear one last time…

And even though I can’t find a clip to post hereHe also turned a Bugatti Veyron into a mouse as a new character, and played a bit of Rolling Stones’ “Satisfaction” as underscore. Total cost of the bit? $1.5MM. Along with that came the pledge that Conan will continue to create the most expensive bits possible from here until his official end.

…by creating a YouTube video and trying to get a billion views. Good friend Steve Delahoyde passed this on with the simple request of posting it to get a billion views. I still haven’t done the math to see how a billion views is going to get Conan saved – but at this point – I’ll blindly follow the herd.

In other news, I virtually walked 3 miles today to fight juvenile diabetes. And tweeted my wife’s bra color to raise breast cancer awareness. I’m kinda all about the issues right now.

Just in case you missed it…

Thoughts? I watched through the opening, the monologue and the 47 video bits, and then went to bed right before Will Ferrell came on. I get it, he’s promoting Land of the Lost. He’s funny – there’s probably going to be a Twitter joke somewhere in there or something (because that’s how you relate to the digital generation).

I have to admit, it was good to see Conan at 10.30, and some bits were funny, it was great to see Andy Richter back in the saddle – BUT – I do hope that “video” isn’t the hallmark of the new era of the Tonight Show. Wait. Like I care. I can’t tell you the last time I sat down and watched The Tonight Show – and it wasn’t because of Jay – it was because Family Guy is on Cartoon Network/Adult Swim – and I’d rather be guaranteed a laugh than gamble my time away.

So – am I gonna watch it again? Maybe. However, if there’s one more video piece in the intro setup with, “My life now is blah blah blah – wanna see how crazy it is….” Then I’m really done. Just because you have this cool new toy of Hollywood Conan doesn’t mean you need to abuse the hell out of it. (But the Taurus getting the girl pregnant was a funny joke.)

Look, even if this was staged, rehearsed or otherwise planned it’s still great television. You watch this and you really get the feeling that something genuinely hilarious is happening – even if it wasn’t genuine.

Smashing eggs in each other’s pants? Come on, that’s funny. And if Conan or Jay tried this today it would just come off feeling staged. And Dave would never allow him self to have this much fun on camera. And Fallon would make it feel like a desperate attempt at whacky-ness.

Sure, Dom is trying a little too hard at the beginning what with the “Oh boy what am I about to do? Maybe I shouldn’t be doing this but I’m going to do it anyway” bit, but still it’s a good set up. And there is such energy in the room with the audience and the band. Yeah, Johnny might have been an ass but he did have a good show back in the day.
