Welcome to the “Summer 2008 Movie Blockbuster Brackets” competition!
So you think you know all about the summer movies, huh? Well, put your money where your mouth is. And get some popcorn. We’re trying something new here at Schadenfreude.net - we’re setting up our own brackets based on this summer’s “Big Blockbusters”. It’s quite simple really - we’re pitting the summer movies up against each other to see who is going to be the reigning champion. Who’s going to have bragging rights? Let’s see if you can figure it out.
Here are the details:
The movies participating are:
East: Hellboy 2, X-Files 2,Wall-E, Journey to the Center of the Earth
South: Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Wanted, Hancock
Midwest: Batman: The Dark Knight, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, The Happening, Speed Racer
West: Get Smart, StepBrothers, Kung-Fu Panda, Space Chimps
The winner of each bout will be decided in the following fashion:
Round 1: Using the website The Numbers - Box Office totals for days 1-7 will be totaled. Highest Box Office Gross moves on to Round 2.
Round 2: Using the website The Numbers - Box Office totals for Days 8-14 will be totaled. Highest Box Office Gross moves on to Round 3.
Round 3: Using the website The Numbers - Box office totals for days 15-21 will be totaled. Highest Box Office Gross moves on The Championship.
Championship Round: Using the website The Numbers - Box Office totals for days 22-28 will be totaled. Highest Box Office Gross will be defined THE Blockbuster of 2008!
All decisions reported on this page will be final.

- Round 1 Winners: 2 points
- Round 2 Winners: 3 points
- Round 3 Winners: 5 points
- Championship Winner: 8 points

So, just to be clear - this is not a cumulative box office thing. Steady and longevity wins. So for example: Speed racer grosses 3 Trillion in Round 1, 1 million in round 2, 1 million in round 3, and 1 million round 4. In the finals (round 4), it meets Get Smart, who had 2 million in each of rounds 1-4. Get Smart would win. Yes?
