Real quick plug - Chris Biddle and Jamie Buell were two of our Rent Party Players who only got the occasional call-out on this site. They are awesome performers who upped the level of the game on our last Rent Party at the Gallery Cabaret. Chris played - aw heck. Why should I retell the story when you can read all about it here, on Chris’ blog.
You wanna learn how to create a character out of nothing but a one-line description? Take notes. These guys did it, and did a fantastic job!

C’monnnnn - who didn’t? They call him “Cuc” - as in Cucumber - as in…. awwww, you get it. He’s your local dive restaurant owner who loves to go around and meet the customers… And loves to have his picture taken with ‘em… And loves to give the fine lookin’ ladies a smooch… And loves tellin’ jokes… C’monnnnnn…..

6 weeks. 6 shows. 5 dive bars. 1 great beer. It all came to an end on Saturday night. We closed the PBR Tour at the place where it all began, the Gallery Cabaret! We had some LA talent there (thanks Jill!), some adventures in what 2 white guys believe and what parts of their body are the hairiest (thanks Don and Joe!), an awkward-looking gentleman that questioned the idea of “mulch” (thanks Robert!), the Hausfrau of the heartland (thanks Bertha!) - and of course, Jango Fett! Needless to say, it was a riotous good time! Complete gallery after the jump! MORE »
Hey all - thanks to everyone who came out over the last six weeks! We had a blast with all the new material, had fun sharing the stage with some of the most awesome performers in Chicago, and checking out the digs at some of the divest bars you can imagine!
And don’t worry, we’ve still got a boatload of pics and videos to share - so if you came here looking to see if you got your photo taken with Carmine from Gallery Cabaret, it’ll be here before you know it!
and we bring out the big boys! Don Hall has been part of the Schad family for years, playing on the same stages and fucking shit up with WNEP. It seems like everywhere we go we either play with/on/around Don Hall. He also helped out when we roasted Adam back before he left for LA. So Don is on the bill with Joe Janes and their show they played at the Second City and the Chicago sketchfest. Ain’t no party without Don Hall.
So the final night at the Schad Rent Party wouldn’t be complete without having a full-on 6 foot 5 inch…um…Bertha Mason in the house! She is coming in to give us some pointers on baking and to regale us with stories about the secrets to life and love. Bertha will be making pie for everyone. Seriously, big juicy pies. This will go nicely with Mike’s beef and wings at the Gall Cab. I know you were thinking how we could make free food even better…well we did it - with pie.
It seems like only yesterday that we were touring around the country with our friends from Piccups and Hiccups. It wasn’t really an organized tour, but wherever we went to perform we would run into them. NYC, LA, Scotland, Chicago. Since that time, Piccups and Hiccups (Seth Meyers and Jill Benjamin) have both spread out to different coasts with Jill finding success all over TV (most recently My Name is Earl) and Seth falling off the radar and becoming completely obscure in irrelevant in NYC (for joke, look at the cover of E Weekly). Jill has performed with us at Improv Festivals and has been a part of several Schad bits over the years. She is making a return trip to Chicago especially for the rent party and we are lucky to have her. Come on out to see Schad + Jill back together again. Saturday night, Gallery Cabaret.
I can’t believe it. But this Saturday will be the sixth and final Schadenfreude Rent Party!!!! We are on a 6 week tour of dive bars, sponsored by PBR. This Saturday, we go home to finish off the tour at the Gallery Cabaret. Mike will cart out his wings & beef and we will truly throw a Schadenfreude party. It’s closing night for gods sake! So if you missed any shows or want another Schad fix, come to the Gall Cab on Saturday night. $2 PBR’s and $6 pitchers. Give me a break, best party in Chicago. There will be special guests and celebrities in attendance, so yeah, time to man up. See ya Saturday.
Seriously. Slams were thrown, Lita Ford interviewed losers, farts were played while a columnist read her work, Tim Smithe cut a ribbon, a jug band played from their latest album in the lobby, Ed Bus even stopped by to tell us why they repealed the foie gras rule. It was like urban LA without all the gunshots. Seriously.
Check out the gallery after the jump!
