Schadenfreude is a nationally-renowned, Chicago-based comedy ensemble whose brand stretches across all forms of media including the screenplays ALDERMAN and PHUDIE MART, a weekly show on Chicago Public Radio (2003-05), and a Chicago Emmy-nominated TV pilot for WTTW.
Striking a successful blend of comedic fiction and reality, their ongoing series of web shorts have garnered national attention spanning every form of media — and their radio call-in show WARD ISSUES features a fictitious political alderman alongside real Chicago politicians. They were recently honored to headline a public city-wide farewell to Mayor Richard M. Daley.
Formed in 1997, Schad has performed at countless venues around the world including The Goodman Theatre, The Second City, Steppenwolf, Lollapalooza, ImprovOlympic, the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre (LA), HERE (NYC), the TBS Just for Laughs Festival, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The ensemble has headlined numerous sold-out venues at annual Chicago Improv Festivals and was the first group to receive the CIF’s “Festival Highlight Award.”
Recent alumni include Ike Barinholtz, John Bolger, Mark Hanner and Gillian Vigman.
