My undying love for Chris Rock

chris-rock-cries-on-oprahApparently, Chris Rock is making a documentary about the struggles black women face with their hair– weaves, wigs, and a lot of other stuff white people have no real idea about.  This is interesting to me for a couple of reasons, not least of which is the fact that I couldn’t style my hair if my life depended on it, and other than watching Tyra and Sherry Shepard, I haven’t heard much about weaves.

What’s more interesting, though, is that Rock is taking on this project not as a comedian but as a cultural critic.  He’s funny, but it seems like this documentary is a sincere look at an issue that is complex and meaningful to the black community and especially to women.  I have long believed that Chris Rock is one of the smartest comics alive, and though I haven’t been able to find much info on the movie yet, his segment on Oprah is both hilarious and surprisingly informative.  There’s also an appearance by Solange Knowles, the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.

I can’t embed the videos, but check out them out on Jezebel here.
