Thanks Jeff Bridges (in which I make a drawing for each of his films)

Eight Million Ways To Die, 1986 (dir. Hal Ashby)

SYNOPSIS: Detective Bridges shoots this guy in a raid and the booze makes him boring and crazy. His wife ditches him and this sets the stage for redemption (more boring and crazy), then he meets a ‘good’ hooker and saves her from Andy Garcia (sno-cones included).

FILM: 5/10

BRIDGES: 8/10 (special consideration given to presence of moustache)

BOTTOM LINE: The Morning After>Eight Million Ways To Die>Blown Away

I am usually drunk when I watch this. The first time I saw it was in 1998. I rented it from a video store where I had to show them a gas bill to get a membership (good times). I drank a bunch of gin and tonics because it was August and I didn’t have air-conditioning. I passed out during the sno-cone scene. This is from the video-box art so I didn’t add the gun as I did with Cutter’s Way (forthcoming) though I find it interesting that there is a developing corollary between facial-hair and guns.
