Their sad attempts to be urban and hip are pathetic, at best. The real truth is that the lousiness came from Jeffrey Katzenberg (the "K" in SKG). BTW, the "G" in SKG is Gefffen who is the head of Hollywood's gay mafia (the gay "thought police"), Anyway, Katzenberg is the one who is guilty of infecting the storylines with those awful wisecracking characters. After an early hit with Shrek, they seemed to get lazy for a while. But "Over The Hedge," the "Madagascar" films, and especially "Kung Fu Panda" are good. (Not quite Pixar-good, mind you, except for KFP.) I’ve always said Pixar’s greatest strength is not their technology, but their storytelling.
