The apocalypse is here. Now don’t get me wrong – I’m in line this week as soon as Sandy tells me when he wants to see it – but Fast and Furious, the 4th sequel in the highly popular “Fast and Furious” franchise, just made $72.5M it’s opening weekend. Here are some amazing made-up stats that just go to show you how impressive this is:
- Best April opening ever, beating “Anger Management’s” $42.2 million.
- Best Universal Pictures opening ever (three-day), beating “The Lost World: Jurassic Park’s” $72.1 million.
- Best F&F franchise opening ever, beating “2 Fast 2 Furious’” $50.5 million.
- Best opening yet in 2009, easily beating the bows of the more-buzzed-about “Monsters vs. Aliens” ($59.3 million) and “Watchmen” ($55.2 million).
- Best opening ever for stars Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster, as well as for director Justin Lin.
Anytime a movie beats “Anger Management’s” opening weekend – then we know we are nearing the end of the world.
Go ahead and buy that car. Take that vacation. Sleep with that stranger. Try that drug. Tomorrow isn’t going to be here, so you might as well live it up.
