Continuing my year-end series on photos from 2008. Backstage – Macalester College Show – St. Paul, MN. Mr. Adam Witt prepares to transform.
Formed in 1997, Schad began performing sketch comedy on Chicago’s north side. The troupe has since performed at countless venues around the world including The Goodman Theatre, The Second City, Steppenwolf, Lollapalooza, ImprovOlympic, the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre (LA), HERE (NYC) and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

WAD, you look like Rocky…contemplating picking up the gloves and getting into the ring….ONE LAST TIME.

I think the best part of this photo is the Red Bull AND coffee that is just off to the side. That’s what it’s come to in order to pull off a Scruffy appearance.
Kate, I didn’t notice that. Adam will need to clarify, but he’s always been a non-sleeper for the most part. When we were in college, he’d sit up all night writing or watching movies, would sleep through his clarion style alarm (which in hindsight was good ’cause it was what woke me up), stumble out of bed and back to his desk.
Do you all circle around him before a Scruffy performance and try to psych him out for “just one more Scruffy Adam, then we’ll burn the suit…promise! Just one more time! One more!”
Looks like JFK in repose after the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Red Bull and Coffee is SUCH a good detail. Great pic Kate, I’m taking back some of the things I said about you.
OK, one last bit.
This photo was actually taken several years ago, before the sketch was invented. The original actor that played Scruffy died a Jedi death and has just become one with the Force, leaving Adam with the legacy.
I’m a dork.
“I’m gonna miss you, ya big lug-mc-muffin!”
“I can’t believe he’s gone.”
“There was nothing you could have done.”
“Come on, we’re not out of this yet.”
It looks like Scruffy died like those old gelflinks died in Dark Crystal. Head sunk in, shriveled.
It reminds me of that movie ( Magic ) where the dude can’t stop performing with that puppet.
