“Warren,” I suspected, was interested in my purchase to justify adding to his own collection. I’m fairly conservative in taste and even young kept short (receding) hair. When I turned into a mirror with a red fox bomber jacket all I could exclaim was, “I look like a GD tick!” It was a “fooooofy” jacket and I a small head. I was reminded of the young Southern ladies who would wear yards of crinoline, ala “Gone With the Wind” that I would refer to as “the lampshades,” their heads extending as a finial.

Perhaps my vison of fur was a frail great aunt who struggled under the weight of a Persian lamb or the ladies who drove to the club, top down on the Eldorado, air conditioning blowing full, insulated in mink or sable.

Now as the years have passed (middle aged) I’ve been tempted to consider the warmth and comfort without a concern of appearing pretentious. After all, I’m quite too old to consider Abercrombie and Fitch.

Though my sister does live at Lawrence and Malden next to the whore house, i’ll ask her what the pimps over there are wearing these days!

And sraltman — I didn’t account for the Pimps of the world. That’s a good point. I was thinking more of the guys who are going out on the town with their ladies for some fine wine and steak. But, then again, when was the last time you actually saw a pimp wearing a fur coat? When was the last time you saw a pimp? I would hope that they’ve learned to be more incognito (especially since their occupation has become the most popular Halloween costume in Lincoln Park…)
