People who don’t respond to email

email.gifWe use email in order to save time and increase efficiency. So why, when we email certain people, do they not get back? Are they blowing us off? Did they not get the message? It’s 2008; people get their emails. The standard “my email sucks!” excuse is growing thin. If your email sucks, get a Gmail account, it’s free and it never breaks. If you don’t respond to emails, be warned — people are calling you a dingleberry. And if responding to emails isn’t a priority, that’s cool, but at least do the courtesy to set an auto response saying “Hi. Got the email. Fuck off.” At least you’d be following-up.

  1. I second that! It’s one thing if you e-mail back and forth with people all day and you miss a couple here or there. But business? Something that asks a question, needs a response? Would you rather I send a letter? Nobody is perfect – and I’m sure I’ve done this a thousand times – but just respond douche.

I’m sorry I never got back to you yesterday, Sandy. You didn’t have to call me out on our website.

  3. Are you talking about responding to real emails with questions, like Justin said, or responding to any/all emails? Because I really hate the bullshit emails that just say, “Cool” that don’t add anything to the overall convo. Half the time it’s akin to the jackass in the meeting who simply says, “Boss, I agree with what you said, and I have nothing to add.” Great. If you don’t have anything to add, then shut the fuck up, and don’t waste my time.

Because you’re right – if there’s a question, or action – yes, I’m a douche, I don’t always respond. But sometimes, I have nothing to add, so I just keep my fingers quiet….

  4. I’m specifically talking about calls to action or needs for response. I am not talking about group e-mails or e-mails that say “yes” or “cool” just for confirmation. I agree with that. And like I said, when the volume of e-mail is abundant (back and forth, say, like Schad does) then I am cool with lack of response. It’s the e-mail to a rock band or improv group about working together or e-mailing someone about a possible gig/question (one-off) that gets me riled..

  5. Agreed. When people don’t email you back about business or something else that needs follow-up, that’s when it gets annoying. I don’t need anyone to say “cool,” but then again, it’s nice for someone to say “cool” once in a while. Can’t play ping pong with just one person.

  6. Not everyone likes ping-pong.
