Sheila — I’m going to agree that the grin is all “James” — and shit eating is the pefect description. I had to convince everyone that I wasn’t reinforcing his bad behavior by doing an instant photo shoot.

Connor — I actually think he said “trick or treat” shortly after we discovered him — which is pretty funny in and of itself. His 19 months old brain is still stuck in October. My Mom is the price is right lady in the shot. Shortly after she asked 2 of us to guess the price of brand new camper/RV.

Bart — I’m not sure how she got the pie all shiney. I kinda think it was mostly my flash. That and Thanksgiving magic.

I recognize that as what some in my family would call the shit-eating grin. It meant you got away with it until some Aunt or Uncle caught you then you were not to be seen or heard from all night because most of the adults would crack up when they saw you (because they were not supposed to reinforce your bad behaviour by laughing at it). My brother Patrick was especially good at this and the subsequent game of “Crack-up Uncle Paddy” that followed.
