NSFW – Kevin Smith

I saw this and was reminded of one of the most horrific places I’ve ever been. The Mystery Men panel at the 1999 Chicago Comicon. I’ve never been more ashamed in my life. If you remember, the movie had an exciting cast, William H. Macy, Ben Stiller, Janeane Garofalo, Paul Reubens, Hank Azaria, and a few others.

They got this entire cast together for a live Q&A via-satellite and EVERY SINGLE question asker was a HUGE dick. Angry sarcastic Magic players who didn’t like anything the people in this movie had done, felt they were interlopers to a cult comic, and let them know. Asking questions like: “Why was Cable Guy so bad?” “How does it feel to sell out?” The cast was stunned and couldn’t grasp this weird mentality (not all nerds are gentle). After the fifth or sixth dick we just knew the next one had to be a real question. No. No exaggeration, fifteen went up before a postive question was asked. I was so embarrased to be amongst them. The Mystery Men were not as prepared for this line of questioning as, clearly, Kevin Smith was.
