XANADU Tonight!

Tonight I’m taking part in Phil Ridarelli’s staged reading of 1980’s camp musical Xanadu as part of It Came from the NeoFuturariam.

Xanadu ultimately became Gene Kelly’s last — and should have become Olivia Newton John’s last. Pre-heat the oven to three-sixty-turd, add roller skates, Venice Beach, special effects from Krull and a dash of AM gold, bake ’till it smells like a dumpster, and you’ve got this musical fantasy disaster.

Amazingly, it was co-produced by Joel Silver, producer leviathan behind The Matrix, Predator and Die Hard — among 20 others omitted for space. Xanadu is simultaneously in production to become a new breakout Broadway musical — and comedic fodder on Chicago’s north side.

Tonight, NeoFuturariam, 8 pm, 5200 North Ashland.
