Please click on the image to the left to see the unholy awesomeness that is the next Transformers poster, and click continue at the bottom of this to see the first shot of Christian Bale in the new Batman costume. Also click here for MAN-THING!!! I just wanted to take a moment to geek out. As I type this, Fantastic Four 2 is playing four blocks away. I never thought I’d live in such a world where Fantastic Four 2 and Spider-Man 3 would both be in theaters in the same year that Ghost Rider made $300 million. I can’t believe knowing my sensitivity and love of this genre that Sandy “You have GOT to see The Core” Marshall would put up a post hacking on it, or that, given the millions of pictures out there this weekend of The Fantastic Four that he would go with the shittiest one you could find. It’s like you spent no time on it, and I know that can’t be the case. Not my Sandy.

I can’t believe as I type this that Transformers is a month away. There have been a lot of articles recently about the 25th anniversary of 1982, the biggest geek year ever. Tron, Dark Crystal, Star Trek II, Poltergeist, The Thing, E.T.. It’s interesting to contrast to 2007 and 1982. In 1982 Geek movies were big risks, a couple of the above movies were big big failures and E.T. was no sure thing, so there’s an innocence to all those movies. Big risks taken in an era where marketing was harder, finding an audience was impossible and only rich people had VCR’s. On the flipside, in the current era Fantastic Four sucked, nobody embraced it AND it made $300 million so here’s the sequel. Very weird. So what kind of geek era are we in? One in which the strangest words ever will soon appear in your lives…Ghost Rider 2. What? How will Sandy come down on that one? We’ll have to wait for his drawing of a scan of a xerox from his cable guide to find out.
