The Rent Party Has Spoken

I am really pumped up about this week’s rent party. It’s Friday night, 8:30 at the Gallery Cabaret in Bucktown (2020 N. Oakley). We have great guests as usual and there is free food and a ton of Metallica on the jukebox, but I can’t stop thinking about the magnitude of this specific rent party. See, we came up with the idea to have a “put down insult” tournament between the alternative media. Sort of an 8-Mile meets the speech team tournament. Why? to quote Sandy “cause how many times have you seen all the different publications spread about at Costellos and wondered “man, I’ll bet they would make fun of each other if they had the chance”. Even though this is all in fun and super respectful, it is really relevant and unique to have a bunch of Chicago institutions together in one room…ripping on one another. Chicagoist vs. Gapers Block? The Chicago Reader vs. Timeout Chicago? This is stuff for the ages. They barely recognize each other, now they are going to meet each other on the stage like Bloodsport. All these institutions will be there on Friday, all have jokes prepared. I can’t wait. History will be made in that hippy bar in Bucktown. Consider this the first alternative, indie media summit of it’s kind. And there is free food.
