Let’s Play Newspaper Editor

I woke up today and my news circuits were overblown. Pick a story and go with it society! If you were the local newspaper, how would you rank the stories today? A gunman goes all hollywood, a Buerhle tosses a no-hitter, Mayor Don Stephens dies, etc. Here’s mine, I want to hear from you today…

1) Gunman video – I think the story should be more about the media’s role in anything abnormal in society. When someone flips out and causes such harm, isn’t it due time to look around at our current climate? And doesn’t it speak volumes that this kid made a video after killing someone? He went to the fucking post office to be infamous. It’s not enough that your actions speak for yourself. Now you have to speak for yourself…in Times Square.

2) Buerhle throws no-hitter – just when you want to write off the Sox and baseball in Chicago, a soft-arm underachiever blinds us to the misery of the moment by achieving excellence in sports. This will be overlooked because there are serious things in the world right now and how lame is it to notice sports when there is this misery. But that’s just it. It’s the antithesis of that story. A man reached the ultimate heights of his capabilities, doing a great job at his job and by doing so, letting us take our minds off the problems of the world. Even though it was an individual, he took one for the team.

3) Bulls lose. Man, what a joke. A caller on the Score called it out. This isn’t Oklahoma City. We have seen 6 championships and we refuse to back a team that can’t win when they have to. They have been super inconsistent. They had a chance for the #2 seed in the playoffs but instead they lose a game they should have won and drop to #5, to play against the favorite Miami Heat (Wade, Shaq). Unbelievable.

4) Don Stephens Passes. This is the guy who ran Rosemont like Deniro ran Casino. Remember all the casino license stuff? Where they would give it to Rosemont and then take it away? It was all because this guy had alleged mob ties. He’s also an old school mayor who names convention centers after himself. I think he loved miniatures too? Something like that. But this is another example of a character passing on. Good Night Don Stephens. I hope you are renaming conventions centers and applying for casino licenses…in heaven.

5) Sanjaya is Gone. What a great 5th story. I was tempted to make this third only because of Howard. Sanjaya sucked, they booted him off. But Howard Stern and a website here in town were pushing to destroy Idol by having a bad singer win, thus compromising the competition. My theory? Sanjaya probably won, but the producers are sick and tired of it and are not above cheating the system. Why? Cause it’s hollywood. That’s what they do.
