100 Million iPods Sold!

ipods.JPG

Apparently Apple announced that the 100 Millionth iPod had been sold.

Sadly, I bought 5 of them. A shuffle, a 1st Gen 20GB, a 5th Gen 80GB, a 4GB blue Mini and a 4GB red Nano. Our house if filled with iPods. If I had kids – I could have three – and everyone in the family would still have their own iPod.

What gets me is that in the press release, they didn’t ask my my opinion about how awesome the iPod is. They ask John Mayer, Mary J. Blige and Lance Armstrong what makes the iPod so cool – but I bet they never even bought one. They never so much as lusted after one when it was released, sold blood, was a hooker on a corner, and picked up freelance jobs just to pay for one. They got their’s for free because their rich. And famous.

Officially, this music player sold faster than the Walkman. Anyone remember those ubiquitous devices of modern portable entertainment? When was the last time you even considred buying anything with the moniker “Walkman” on it? That’s what I thought. What also gets me, is the category Apple is touting, “Fastest selling portable music player.” Wow. Ok Guinness – you getting this? They are going to want to be listed in the 2008 directory. Don’t fuck it up.
