I Met Quentin!

Allright, “met” isn’t the right word but I’m pretty casual around celebrities, so I don’t say hi or shake hands or thank them for bringing “Slithis” to the New Beverly (which I thought about saying). I just smile and think to myself “it’s pretty cool that Quentin Tarantino is two feet away from me and bears a striking resemblance in manner to Jim McWilliams.” It was very cool to meet him on the sidewalk with nobody around, not at some signing or Fangoria convention. The sneak preview of Grindhouse at the very theatre I’ve been obsessively going to was showing was at 11 and people started lining up at 6. When I got there the line was around the corner into the alley…

See the line, it goes all the way to the end of the block…

See off in the distance, that’s the New Beverly Sign, see how the line goes off to the right, it continues to the alley…

and here’s the back of the line in the alley.

I gave up the idea of waiting for hours and hours, though seeing Grindhouse the way it was meant to be seen, in a Grindhouse, would be very special. At 11pm 400 people were shuffled into the theatre leaving 200 standing out on the sidewalk. Those people then bought tickets for the 2am showing and left. Then, the sidewalk was completely empty, quiet for the first time in many hours, everyone was either inside or drinking until they got inside. I was standing there, contemplating a 2am show that would start at 3am, all by myself with the ticket guy looking at me asking “what’s up? you in or out?” when Quentin Tarantino walks right up to me, just me. He’s a dopey dude with a dopey gait. He’s every bit the regular dude we all love him for being. Very cool. Two feet away. I didn’t say anything. I’ve envisioned the convo’s I’d like to have with Quentin and didn’t see any of them happening right them. Some day, at the screening room in his house, but not on a sidwalk in L.A. It was awsome though, what can I say, I really like the guy. Which puts me in pretty big company. Why didn’t I buy a ticket for the 2am? Why? Oh well, who knows. Will I ever get that chance again? No. But hey, TWO FEET.
