My Luddite Experiment

Yesterday was a big day for me.

I finished all my laundry in one sitting. But beyond that – I didn’t turn my computer on once. You have no idea that amount of restraint that took. Or discipline.

Thoughts on a computer-less day – and it goes beyond what I found to alternatives to online porn – after the jump.

That’s freakin’ right. A whole day without turning on a computer. I almost started off the day turning one on – my sister is looking to buy a new computer and found one on eBay, and I told her I would check out this auction she found. Normally, I’m ok with eBay purchases – but when the seller is in Canada. And has the username: “RipsOff36” – I tend to be skeptical. I told her to skip it – and avoided turning it on. (Round 1 – Me)

When searching for something to wear – I noticed that the raio of clean to dirty clothes was one that would put NASA in the red. This was a “no-go” situation. So I began the process of collecting clothes, sorting, and trying to remember – when you was colors – is it Cold with a Cold rinse, or Cold with a Hot rinse. AND – as a bonus, I found $7 stuffed into a pocket of jeans. So hey – I win. (Round 2 – Me)

Call me a dork – but I love “Mythbusters“. There was a marathon on – so during the time I would normally be browsing the web, looking for shit I don’t really need, or even composing posts for this site right here (ahem.) – I was watching Adam and Jaime make total jackasses of themselves. More importantly, they were all episodes that had Kari Byron on. I’m telling you – a splendid evening would be Kari, Chloe and the original 1977 Gary Gygax authored Dungeons and Dragons rulebook. (Round 3… and 4 – Me)

After a few episodes, I did something I really don’t do unless I’m traveling – I read a book. Yup. Can you believe it? I’m still reeling from that fact myself. I picked up a copy of Microserfs – (funny enough, it’s ABOUT computers – but I didn’t turn one on!). What a fun read. An involving little story about the little people who make Bill Gates all his money. It’s the history of Microsoft (loosely) from the programmer’s perspective. To get the nasty taste of Microsoft out of my mouth, I then began, but have not finished iWoz – the autobiography of Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple. (Round 5 – Me)

The rest of the day pretty much went on like that. I even played with Maddie for an hour – outside! She was shocked when I picked up her tennis ball, and headed for the door. But we had a good time running around the melting snow in the backyard.

And the big question – what did I do for porn yesterday?

I didn’t. Didn’t expect that, didja?
