Play. Shuffle. Repeat.

Yeah, I’m an Apple fanboy. Never denied it. I have one of those fancy iPods – the one that does music AND videos. I love it. Carry it with me everywhere. Even if I only get to listen to it for 2 minutes, I plug it in. I postpone making phone calls because it means I’ll have to stop listening. Not too long ago, Adam asked to hit “Shuffle” on your iPod, and write the first 5 songs down. Justin did it, but I’ve been a little slow on the uptake. Well… Here they are – my “Top 5 Jamz” – after the jump…

I’m not going to qualify my iPod like Justin did. I have one, and my wife has one (a red Nano to be exact). I call it Mojo – and that’s all you need to know. (And it’s not an Austin Powers referenece, it’s a Simpson’s reference – if you get it, you’re awesome. If you don’t – don’t worry.) So here they are….

  1. The Chronic (Intro) – Dr. Dre – The Chronic. Wow. Even I’m surprised by that one. Recently, songs from Madonna’s “Music” album have been coming up. Don’t have a reason for this, just gonna go with it, and rock it for a little bit.
  2. Ramshackle – Beck – Odelay. Ok. I’m a big fan of Beck – in theory. I do like his older music, but the latest stuff, anything after Vultures, just kinda freaks me out. Maybe I’m getting old?
  3. The Distance – Cake – Fashion Nugget. Big fan of Cake. My personal favorite song? Short Skirt, Long Jacket. But I’ll take The Distance. I think I started listening to them about three years ago – there was a show on Cartoon Network called “Mission Hill” and their intro song was the musical break of “Italian Leather Sofa” – and it was so catchy, I tracked it down, and started expanding. It’s kinda senseless lyrics, like Soul Coughing – but the music itself is awesome.
  4. God Part II – U2 – Rattle and Hum. Name one person who doesn’t have Rattle and Hum on their iPod. Or at least in their music collection. This is one of those watershed albums where if people weren’t on board by the beginning with Joshua Tree – this tipped the scales. Have a lot of U2 – no doubt about it.
  5. Push – Sarah McLachlan – iTunes Originals. I have this thing with Sheila while she’s in Delaware where I send her a “Song of the Week.” She doesn’t have time to cultivate musical tastes, so I take the time to give her mine. What I’m listening to now, or songs she has mentioned that she likes but doesn’t know the artist, that kind of thing. She didn’t have any Ludacris in her library until I took care of it. Anywhoo – she surprised me one week by sending me a song. This was it. The story is – if anyone listens to Sarah McLachlan – is that her music is hauntingly good – but very depressing if you actually listen to the lyrics. Sarah wrote this to be a happy love song. And Sheila sent it to me [insert AWWWWW here].

So that’s my Top 5 – as of this moment. I’m sure if I were to do this again – the 5 would change – that’s the beauty of Shuffle!
