Dude! I’m missing the snow!

Man, I have no concept of what month it is. It was shocking when I found out that Chicago and Southwestern Ohio were getting pelted, because it hadn’t occurred to me what month it was. You know that first great day of summer that makes you realize that Summer’s arrived. It’s like that everyday here. It’s weird. You can be told over an over that the weather in L.A. is nice all the the time, but until you move here, you don’t realize that not only is it true, but how weird that reality is.

Man, I have no concept of what month it is. It was shocking when I found out that Chicago and Southwestern Ohio were getting pelted with snow, because it hadn’t occurred to me what month it was and that it generally snows in this month. I’m all discombobulated because June won’t end. You know that first great day of summer that makes you realize that Summer’s arrived? It’s like that everyday here. It’s weird. You can be told over and over that the weather in L.A. is nice all the the time, but until you move here, you don’t realize that it’s true and that that truth is friggin’ weird. Now most transplants have this “no thank you” and “never again” attitude towards snow. Screw that, I love snow. I miss snow. I love being snowed in. I love looking outside and seeing snow. I love the big snows, which I guess is going on right now in Chicago. The best thing about big snows is that you notice it’s snowing, and then you go on about your day, and then a couple hours later realize, “wow it’s still snowing” and then you go on about your day and after five hours of this you start to really root for it, as it’s clearly going for the gold.

When Justin emailed me the Trib weather report I was instantly reminded of New Years Day 1999. Schadenfreude did our first radio appearance on a transmitter that may not have gotten farther than the Heartland Cafe. It was one of those snows and snows and snows days. I think that’s the day Stephe and I trudged up Broadway to the Hollywood video to rent a bunch of videogames to play while it kept snowing. Good times. But this 75 degree weather. It’s just odd.
