Forget the Players, It’s Surreal for Me!

Top of the Morning to Ya! I watched all the news last night and tried to catch all the shows that send people to media day to get a glimpse of more national coverage of our Bears in Miami. Every time I see a 2nd teamer or practice squad guy messing with a Mexican hottie reporter, it reminds me of how sweet this is.

More Bears, Obama/Clinton, Stroger and Scooter the Geek, after the jump.

I watched all the news last night and tried to catch all the shows that send people to media day to get a glimpse of more national coverage of our Bears in Miami. Every time I see a 2nd teamer or practice squad guy messing with a Mexican hottie reporter, it reminds me of how sweet this is. No way would number 22 have any microphones in his face if we would have lost to the Seahawks. And no way would number 75 be flirting with international reporters if we stunk it up against the Saints. This is the spoils. See, media day works where it is almost impossible to get a one on one with any of the stars because of all the traffic, so the reporters fall back and try to pick one or two Bears off who aren’t being interviewed. Hence the fact that #52 Jamar Williams (hurt in week 4) is doing “ah, it is just really sweet to be here right now and an unbelievable situation for me. I thank God for putting me in this place”. So that’s what this Super Bowl is for. The practice squad and the injured reserve. Go get em guys.

NOTE TO LOCAL MEDIA

I know you are playing to blue hairs and shut-ins in Streamwood, but please stop with the kicker stories on the 2 retarded guys who tried out for American Idol. And then when the story wraps and it comes back to you live, don’t chuckle. You all did it. A kudos point to Mark Giangreco on Channel 7 – he actually did the story on Tank Johnson having to relive the nightmare of the same questions about his deadly ordeal earlier in the year. That was his coverage of media day. The other networks did the “I can’t believe the spectacle here! and look at the idol retards!”

LAST SUPERBOWL TIDBIT FOR TODAY

I can’t make heads or tails of the newspaper coverage of the Super Bowl. They all have so much coverage and so much space on their websites dedicated to it that it is becoming super overkill. I can’t decide what to read. I did read one great piece this week (one out of 55) that talked about the Bears paying some sort of tribute to Walter Payton. See, Walter didn’t score in the last Super Bowl. At the time, nobody really cared. But after the years, everyone realized it would have been a great moment for all the years Walter served the Bears. So there was this article about how the new Bears are aware of that. They didn’t say if they would do anything on the field, but maybe if Thomas Jones gets into the endzone? Could he point to the sky, maybe make a gang symbol-like 34 with his two hands? Maybe wear a headband? Maybe run for 130 and catch 6 balls? Man, if they did pay tribute to Walter, I would straight up sob. I’m getting misty just writing this.

ITS FUN TO BE IN CHARGE

Oh, this is why we should vote for people with competence and experience. Stroger is kind of screwing up this Cook County budget. And worse? He’s ducking, hiding and making a fool out of himself. Note to county – this is his first challenge. He’s still got 4 years in office. Yikes.

OBAMA/CLINTON SHOWDOWN

The one thing people overlook when they talk about Illinois and our role in the presidential political process is money. Sure, it would be great to be earlier in the primary race (we are trying to move our date up), but I am more interested to see how the fatcat north shore money makers are going to lean. Remember when Clinton used to show up for sly private dinners in Lincolnwood/Glencoe? Illinois has a lot of money. Does it go to Hillary? Or to our newborn, Obama? To me, that will decide the winner.

FINALLY TODAY

I really hope they boot off Scooter tonight on Beauty and the Geek. He is too geeky and reminds me of the worst kind of geek: the quiet judgemental one. Sorry bud – but I like my geeks out in the open.
