Tuesday 24 Wrap Up – 11 AM – 12 PM

So, you thought you had a rough Thanksgiving. Aunt Jean not talking to Uncle Bob?
Screw you. Try being a Bauer.

It starts with having a lame name, like Graem, and ends with an Oedipal Complex that would make the ancient Greeks spin in their graves.

Last night’s recap, observations – and a huge bonus after the jump.

So. The episode begins with “reminding” all of us a Nuke went off in Valencia, CA. Killing 12,000. I get it. Someone set off a nuke. 24 – get over yourselves. We all know what happened. My mother knows what happened. Cool? Let’s just from this point forward say, “A nuke went off” and leave it at that. Let’s move on.

I am going to start creating “rules” for life based on 24. Very simple observations that you could probably take into your real life. Here’s Rule #1: If someone asks you to do something, and they follow it up with, “Your work will not be forgotten,” be afraid. Be very afraid. And don’t do it.

This happened last night, Fish from Ally McBeal asked some brown-noser to dig up some dirt on Karen. He did, without question, and now Karen is going to be in LA with hubby Bill. Now, all of us fans of 24 already know – Fish isn’t a bad guy – he’s just a hawk. He just like control, eating little babies and drinking goat blood – but he’s still following “political aspirations” – not bad, just ugly.

The interesting thing about last night’s episode – they are already starting with the “Jack-light” episodes. Sure, we meet Pappa-Bauer. Sure, we find out that Graehm is still pissed that The Farmer from Babe loved Kiefer more. And sure – by the time for next week’s preview, we find out that Jack escapes from little bro’s evil plans. But this week, this was dedicated to the secondary characters.

Like Nadia – the chick we are all supposed to believe is evil. They set her up. The awkward glances, the breaking the rules for her because she’s such a valuable team member…. She happens to be of Middle Eastern descent…. She’s pissy. Yeah, screaming mole. But I’m not following for it! I’m smarter than you, writers of 24! I’m not falling for it!

And then there’s Chloe *sigh* – Sheila, I love you terribly, but when Chloe starts picking firewalls, parsing data bits – my heart just melts. Especially with that little pout… Sadly, just a few phone calls and a longing glance from her this week.

I think Hollywood and LA should now move past the “geek-slacker” style for tech guys under the age of 30. We all don’t have goatees. We do take showers, we aren’t all classy enough to wear loud shirts with blazers and have exposed surfer chains. We normal dudes. Every once in awhile – show us a normal guy – it would make me feel a little better.

Now – is it just me, or when Jack is “discovering” information, usually in the midst of an interrogation – do you lose what is being said? The thread of the conversation sorta gets lost between heavy breathing (Jack) and heavy breathing (interrogatee) – and whatever important information…. just gets swallowed.

I think I’m not the only one anymore. Have you noticed that after any good interrogation in which major plot points are quickly summed up by Jack and Bill? After the 7 minute interrogation, family reunion scene – Jack calls Bill and sums it up in 47 seconds, letting us, the audience in, complete with color commentary by Bill – and let’s us know what the next steps are. Thanks writers – it helps immensely.

Alright – a little more action – something blowing up – and we are well on our way!

Oh yeah – anyone else like the Euro-Trash dick working with Fayed to get a theoretical nuclear physicist to arm the other nukes because the last one blew himself up? There’s something about that dude – it’s not that I like him – but I think the character is exactly what 24 needs. Just my two cents.

And now time for the bonus….

Glen-Bill

Thanks Julie!
